5th March

Morning Year 2,

This is the last morning that I have got to type my message to the majority of you and I could not be more pleased!

A massive thank you to all the adults who have supported the children with their learning whilst having to deal with everything else that adult life throws at you too. You are all incredible.

Have a lovely weekend. Enjoy and rest and get those things ready for Monday morning. I know Mrs Beaver is excited to see you all as you walk in the gate, so make sure you give her a very big ‘hello’ and smile on your way in too.

Let’s see what fancy dress Joe has this morning for the very last time!

See you Monday J

Reading

Today is a celebration of all things books! A day to celebrate authors and illustrators. You could;

-Snuggle up with your favourite book for a bit today

-Listen to a new book on Youtube

-Head over to the World Book day sections on the class pages to listen to adults at school read a story and also have a guess at the Masked readers too!

Whole school challenge

At the end of last week I said that there was going to be a challenge that you would need a cereal box/shoe box/Amazon box for… and this is it!

I would like you to create a Picture Book Theatre.  There is a video explanation here of how to do it https://www.worldbookday.com/online-masterclasses/how-to-create-a-picture-book-theatre/

If this looks a little complicated, why not try turning your box into a book. I have popped some pictures of examples into the files.

There are lots of other challenges to give a go today too in the files below. I wonder what ones you will give a go. If you have brothers or sisters at home with you and they have different activities on their classes’ pages, you could try those out too!

I love these, maybe you could try making your own

Number of the day

Today is our 104th day in Year 2. So today you will need to use the number 104.

How many different ways can you make this number? Show this in a part – part – whole diagram Is it odd or even? How many hundreds/tens/ones? Can you work out double and half the number? If you can’t do it in your head straight away that’s ok, could you draw a picture e.g. tens and ones to help you work out the answer?

+1  +10   + 100

-1  - 10  - 100

Is it in the 2, 5 or 10 times table?

If 104 is a bit tricky then maybe use the number 10 or 4 instead to start with. I have put a number of the day recording sheet in the files below in case you would like to use it.

2nd March

Morning Year 2,

Did you know that Dr Seuss was born on the 2nd March (in 1904) Even if you don’t recognise his name, you’ll recognise what he is most famous for.

Maybe you could find out some more and listen to more of his books. A couple of years ago for World book day, Mrs Hargreaves and myself dressed up as 2 of his characters. I wonder if you can guess which ones J

Have a wonderful day today.

For our topic jobs today (and Wednesday/Friday) you will also need access to Katie Morag stories to learn about the island she lives on. These can be found https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLIn1n6Wtmw There are a number of stories with Katie in them. The children may also know her from the CBeebies programme.

Today I would like you to listen to one of the Katie stories and then think more about where she lives. You’ll need to have a look at the file called Tuesday topic but as always, you don’t need to print it. I’ve also included a map of where she lives because I found it really interesting! What sort of things can you spot on it?

1st March

Morning,

Pinch and a punch for the first of the month! I hope you had a lovely weekend. Wasn’t the weather beautiful. This time next week we will all be doing the register together and you’ll be back to enjoying playtimes with all your friends.  J

I don’t know about you but my evenings (and some mornings!) have been a little later since Christmas. If you have been the same then this week it might be a good to start practising and getting back into a proper routine again. Find where you threw your shoes and book bag before Christmas too!

Thursday this week is World Book day. We will have our class zoom at our normal time of 11am on this day so if you can dress up and join us please, please do.

I will miss Joe next week though as this is the last week he will be doing his morning workouts.  He’ll be live at 9am this morning https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAxW1XT0iEJo0TYlRfn6rYQ

Have a great day.

This week’s new spelling rule and list is in the files below.

Handwriting

Our new spellings are written in our beautiful cursive handwriting for you to give a go. Remember to make sure those letters are sitting on the line and the tall long ladder letters are nice and tall. Try to do at least 3 of every word. You could put the words into a sentence too.

Lexia

Who is going to manage to crack another level this week before we all get back next Monday?!

English

This week we are going to try something a little bit different for English. We are going to be using the website you used for your super science learning about habitats. Everyday there will be a link to a lesson which you need to watch and listen to carefully. Some days there will be activities for you to do while you watch and you’ll need to keep hold of these for the rest of the week. We are going to be using some of this week’s learning when you come back to school next week so make sure you listen carefully and try really hard with the tasks that are set.

Here is today’s link to the lesson. https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-listen-and-respond-to-an-information-text-64r6ae
