29th January

Morning,

First of all, wow! I so enjoyed our class zoom, it was fab to see you all joining in together and like I said yesterday, although we may not all be in the same room together at the moment, it felt like we kind of were. Great effort from the adults joining in too! J

Well Year 2, you have very nearly made it to the end of another week of ‘home school’. Another week where you have worked really hard, you may have had a couple of wobbles along the way but you are making everyone so proud in the way you are tackling the different challenges.

Adults, I’ve spoken to a few of you this week for lots of different reasons and in all honestly it’s been lovely for me, to speak to other adults outside my own and school bubble! Please do keep letting me know how you are getting on – the good, the bad and the ugly(!) We’re here to help in any way we can.

Joe Wicks, live at 9am this morning, let’s see what costume he has this morning. Then I have the mammoth task of putting all your pictures of your wonderful work up on here, keep an eye out for it later on.

Number of the day

Today is our 86th day in Year 2. So today you will need to use the number 86.

How many different ways can you make this number? Show this in a part – part – whole diagram Is it odd or even? How many hundreds/tens/ones? Can you work out double and half the number? If you can’t do it in your head straight away that’s ok, could you draw a picture e.g. tens and ones to help you work out the answer?

+1  +10   + 100

-1  - 10  - 100

Is it in the 2, 5 or 10 times table?

If 86 is a bit tricky then maybe use the number 8, 6 or 80 instead to start with. I have put a number of the day recording sheet in the files below in case you would like to use it.

Reading

Read aloud to an adult

English

Today we going to use our Science skills and then our English instruction writing skills to write a set of instructions for someone else to carry out the investigation. Do you remember when we wrote instructions on ‘How to catch a dragon’? Can you remember what instructions need to have in them? You might have some instructions in your house –you could have a look at them before you start writing your own.

Maths

Today is learning how to divide by 10. If the 2x table, can help with dividing by 2 and the 5x table can help with dividing by 5… what do you think you need to know to help you divide by 10?

PE

Have a go at the challenges in the files if you have some energy to burn or you are feeling a bit sleepy to wake you up. If you are feeling like you need to calm down or rest your body and brain then try out cosmic yoga.

Use any other time you have this afternoon to finish off or catch up with anything from the week. You might want to practise groups and sharing a bit more, or try out more of the art ideas from yesterday or even think about a different habitat to make a poster about. You might like to make a card for someone to say hello or thank you, or you might just want to curl up with a book and read. J

Read the letter from Mr and Mrs Cobbler in the file below. Today’s challenge is to write a postcard back to them to tell them what you have been up to. You could use the template or make your very own postcard – you could even write on one side and draw a lovely picture on the other side.

Today is learning how to divide by 5. Can you spot how counting in 5’s and knowing your 5 times table can help you with dividing by 5? I’d love to hear or read your explanations.

Today is all about dividing by 2. Remember that this might sound tricky but dividing by 2 is the same as finding half of a number. Adults, the children should have quick recall of doubles and halves of number to at least 10.

26th January

Morning Year 2,

Did you enjoy reading our new story? I think it would be great to have elves to help out at home, although I know that you are all super helpful so maybe your adults don’t need elves…what do you think?!

I’ve added some extra maths games for you to try today as I know lots of you are missing the ones we play at school.

I wonder how many more Lexia certificates I will need to print and send this week, I can see so many of you close to completing a level J Remember to try and spend at least 10 minutes on it a day, it is such a fantastic site to really help you with your reading and also skills which help your writing too.

Have a great day.

25th January

Morning everyone,

I hope you had a lovely weekend. Did you get snow yesterday? I live in Bournemouth and there wasn’t any here, just lots of rain in the morning. I’d love to see any of your cold, frosty, snowy pictures. I feel very lucky to live close to the beach and managed to go for a windy walk with my family. It made me think of Mrs Beaver’s collective worship from last week about the value of gratitude and feeling thankful.

Have a look at today’s collective worship which Mrs Beaver has shared. It is an Open the book worship which I know we always enjoy in class.

Before I settle down to work today, I’ll be joining Joe Wicks, live at 9am.

Spelling

How did you get on with last week’s spelling rule. If you haven’t already, get someone to test you on them. Then have a read of this week’s new spellings – it sounds very similar to last week but looks different. They are in the files below.

Handwriting

Use today’s new spelling list. You could use the sheet in the files or even write your new spellings into super sentences. Try to keep your writing the same size and really concentrate on those joins too.

English

New story this week – one which you and your family may be familiar with! It is called The Elves and the Shoemaker. Today I would like you to read the story and then answer the questions. You don’t need to print out the questions – you could just write down your answers in full sentences e.g. My favourite part of the story was………..because……….

Maths

Today is more about making equal groups. We have learnt a bit about this already. So today I would like you to think back to the work we have done so far on grouping and sharing. If you have been getting on ok and are feeling confident then have a look at the 2nd video and then the files called Maths 2.  If you think you need a bit more practise then have a look at the first video and then the file called Maths 1.

You could even start on number 1 and then give number 2 a go or if you start on number 2 and find it tricky, jump back to number 1.
