Morning,

We made it Year 2! We made it through a whole half term of learning at home and I could not be prouder of you. Well done if you have persevered at something you have found tricky, gave something a go even if you didn’t really want to and an even bigger well done if you have made sure you have continued to show kindness to those around you.

Today we have some jobs to finish off, like our super stories and maths work about money. Try to make sure you spend some time on Lexia and Numbots today too – can you make it to the end of a level?

Lets start our Friday like usual with Joe Wicks...

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAxW1XT0iEJo0TYlRfn6rYQ

and end our school day today with a dance at our school disco! It will be great to see as many of you as possible, even if you just join to wave to your friends and listen to the music. Use the link below to join. (Please make sure you are muted and your videos are on, joining with a name that I will recognise)

Number of the day

Today is our 96th day in Year 2. So today you will need to use the number 96.

How many different ways can you make this number? Show this in a part – part – whole diagram Is it odd or even? How many hundreds/tens/ones? Can you work out double and half the number? If you can’t do it in your head straight away that’s ok, could you draw a picture e.g. tens and ones to help you work out the answer?

+1  +10   + 100

-1  - 10  - 100

Is it in the 2, 5 or 10 times table?

If 96 is a bit tricky then maybe use the number 6, 9 or 90 instead to start with. I have put a number of the day recording sheet in the files below in case you would like to use it.

English

Today is all about finishing those super stories you started yesterday. Start today by reading what you have written so far. Then give the next part of your story a go.

If you managed to finish your story yesterday or when you finish today, have a look at these games

Reading

My little boy tried to climb into the bath (no water!) with a book yesterday to look at it and it got me thinking… maybe you could find somewhere a bit strange to read today!

Story writing day J Today and tomorrow there is time for you to write your story. Use your boxing up plan to help you order your story. Remember, you’ve done half the hard work already by thinking about what is going to happen and words you wanted to use so today you can concentrate on turning these ideas into clear sentences.

Reading

I’ve heard lots back about the volcano clip from Tuesday, it was a bit tricky listening and remembering the information to answer the questions wasn’t it! Today is similar but about an animal which some of you have already found out about. The link for the video clip is below and the questions are in the files.

-Lexia

Maths

Today is all about adding together small amounts of money. Adults to begin with the children learn to write amounts such as £2 and 42p, using the word ‘and’ between the £ and p rather than the decimal point.

Watch the video and then try the activities in the file called 11th February.

If you are finding adding two numbers together a little tricky, then have a practise using these links

Morning,

It has turned super cold hasn’t it? Inka, my dog, doesn’t seem to like the cold wind out there, she has been walking very fast, I think so she can get home quicker to warm up! I spotted some beautiful patterns in the frost yesterday morning and lots of icy spider webs too, I didn’t have a camera with me but I’ll try and remember it this morning so I can share what I find. I heard about lots of puddle jumping last week after the rain, have you spotted anything beautiful on your walks this week?

Below is the link for adults joining me this morning.

How did you get on changing the story map to make it your own? Today I would like you to plan in a little bit more detail, thinking about what you are going to write, before you write it means your story will make more sense. You could also write down some great words that you might want to remember to include. Adults, in class this is where we would check and correct spellings so the children have the right spellings to use when it comes to their actual story writing.

This way of planning is called ‘boxing up’ (Year 3,4,5 and 6 plan this way so I thought if they can do it, we can too!) I have added an example in the files. Remember today is just your pictures from your story map, turned into words.

Reading

I hope you enjoyed yesterday’s reading challenge. I thought the information about volcanoes was really interesting! A shorter reading job today but it is still important that you make sure you answer the questions using what you have read in the text.

- Get comfy and enjoy reading a book of your choice today too

Today is Safer internet day and so I have popped some activities in the files for you to have a go at and to chat to your adults about today. It is so important to know how to keep safe when you use the internet. I was really pleased to see some ideas already on your S pictures you did last week for Harold’s SCARF.

Have a wonderful day Year 2.

Your new front covers are fantastic! Today’s first job is to write some speech bubbles for the bear. See if you can write different types of sentence for each picture. Maybe a question, a statement and a command or even an exclamation sentence. If you can’t remember what these are then have a look at this link before you give the job a go.

Then, have a look at my story map. It’s not as good as yours will be I know! I tried to think of the main parts of the story to help me retell it. Today, I would like you to have a go at your own to plan your own story. You could use mine and then just change the characters and instrument. It’s up to you.

Spellings

Spelling test first this morning. Have a quick peek at the spelling rule from last week to help you before you start. Let me know how you get on.

This week’s new spelling rule and list is in the files below.

Handwriting

Our new spellings are written in our beautiful cursive handwriting for you to give a go. Remember to make sure those letters are sitting on the line and the tall long ladder letters are nice and tall. Try to do at least 3 of every word. You could put the words into a sentence too.

Reading

Lexia

I can see lots of you managed to log in last week, most of you every day – well done! Try to do just 10/15 minutes every day. I wonder who can reach the next level and get their certificate this week before half term.

English

By the end of this week we will have written our own story based on The bear and the piano. You are super at changing stories and making them your own so I can’t wait to see this one!

To start with, today you are going to need to decide on a new animal character and also decide what the character might learn to play.

I would like you to design a new front cover for your story. Have a look at the picture of the original cover, this might help you with yours. Don’t forget the title and also to put the author’s name (that’s you!) on the front too! Take your time with this today. Remember a cover is the first thing people see of your book. Make sure the presentation is the best it can possibly be.

Maths

Today you are going to be making amounts of money.
