Promoting British Values

The Department for Education have published guidance expressing the need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.”  Within the Diocese of Salisbury Academy Trust and Blandford St Mary Primary, we seek to promote these values through our Trust vision statement and the vision statements of our own school.

Our curriculum approach ensures that these values are addressed frequently through RE, personal and social development, behaviour.  We subscribe to Picture News, which is a current affairs resource, which has direct links to British Values explicitly taught.

As an organisation, we will actively challenge pupils, staff or parents expressing opinions contrary to the above values.  All our staff have undertaken PREVENT training so are alert to the need to respond to potential extremism and radicalisation.
