'Knowing we are loved, we learn and grow to be the best that we can be.'

Friday 5th March

Today is our last day of Home Learning – hopefully forever!!!!!

Hooray!   It was great to see some of you you dressed up yesterday and to have fun with the WBD quiz.  If you haven't had a go at guessing the Masked Reader, then go and have a look.  Today is the last day of so much laptop use - we will be using laptops as little as possible next week at school.

Why not gather these things together ready for Monday today?

  • School uniform, especially green jumper/cardigan
  • Hair ties for typing back hair (girls generally!)
  • Your copy of The Boy at the Back of the Class
  • Your diary, signed for any reading you have done
  • Your homework books
  • Any ipad or laptop that we have loaned you for lockdown needs to be returned to school.
  • Your current reading book

I have been setting homework and well done to very one completing it. I know some of you haven’t, I’ll be giving house points to those that have, but I do expect this weeks to be completed by next Tuesday. So that is Spring term week 8. If you have time and you haven’t done it complete it today.

Hit the Button

Our times tables test later could be on anything so use this time on Hit the Button to practice the times tables you feel you need to practise the most.

Rhi-swano-zeb-tah – editing Stations

Read through your work carefully, you will need a blue pen (if you don’t have a blue one choose a different colour to the one you wrote in yesterday), now go through the following pages.

Each one asks a different thing, you are aiming to improve your original work.

Slides 2-8 are about Grammar.

Slides 10-12 are about Spelling.

Slides 14-20 are about Punctuation.

Slides 22 and 23 are about adding more detail.

Slides 27-30 are extra Punctuation.

When you have gone through the slides go through your work a paragraph at the time and aim to find something from each of the sections to improve.

Slide 25 – Now you are going to rewrite the report. I’ve attached some paper if you want to print it out – It should be your neatest handwriting / presentation.

I’ve left a space for you to include a picture of your animal. This could either be a drawing or you could print out the animal from the switchzoo app.

Please bring in your finished work on Monday.

Start todays lesson with five in five.

Area of Irregular Shapes

Begin by watching the video link:

Aut5.12.4 - Area of irregular shapes

This is "Aut5.12.4 - Area of irregular shapes" by White Rose Maths on Vimeo, the home for high quality videos and the people who love them.

Answer all of the questions up to question 5.

Now try the end of unit assessment:

Times Tables Test

Find some way to time yourself. Now answer the 36 questions from the sheet below. Although I want you to complete this activity quickly it is more important that you get them all right. So every wrong answer adds 10 seconds. I’d like to know how you did so email your time. Remember if you finished in 5 minutes and got 2 wrong, your time would be 5 minutes and 20 seconds – that’s 2 lots of ten seconds for each wrong answer.

I know this is on all the times tables but how did your result compare to last week. Were you quicker? Did you get more correct? Did you get the last question correct?

Spelling Test – Spelling Shed

So there is a spelling test today. If possible find another person to test you on your able words from Monday. Let me know how you do.

If it is not convenient for someone else to test you then have at least 3 more games on spelling shed so that you really know those words.

Whole Class Guided Reading

Chapter 10 – Comprehension – Answer the questions as fully as possible.

How to mend a hole

Sew up a hole - How to stitch a hole closed - Sew holes shut with hand sewing no machine

How to sew up a hole in clothing. Easy way to stitch a hole closed. Repair a hole in pants with hand sewing. No sewing machine needed. All you need is a need...

This week try to sew up a hole in a piece of fabric. Use the link above to help you.

Again, you will need your piece of material, thread, a needle and a small pair of scissors. Again, another valuable life skill and very easy to do. I would really like to see some pictures of your results. Have fun and be careful.

The above video will show you how to do this.

Class Story

Listen to the final two chapters 30 and 31 of Brightstorm.

Have a wonderful weekend and I cannot wait to see everyone in person on Monday.
