Learning in Year One
Graduation Day - 9th March
To start off Enterprise Week, we talked about money, jobs and our future after school. We looked at how we could continue learning by going to University and how it helped us to learn more about a certain job for example, being a teacher or doctor. We then thought about what we wanted to be when we grew up and what skills we needed in order to be good at that job.
Lily wanted to be a dancer because she wants to be famous and Daniel wanted to be a lifeguard because he wants to save people's lives.
Monday 2nd March
Today we looked at 'exploring', what it meant and how easy it was to follow a map to a certain location. We started off by looking at our school on Google Maps and looking for familiar features such as the tyre, the astro and Little Birch. Then we played a game where we worked in partners to hide objects in the classroom for our partner to find by using a map. We were great at finding our objects and even started to create our own maps of the classroom.
Kingston Maurward Trip
Today Year 1 and 2 went on a trip to Kingston Maurward Animal Park. We saw lots of different animals such as goats, alpacas, hawks and ferrets. Some of us had never heard of a wallaby or rhea so it was very exciting to see them. We also went guinea pig fishing with cabbage and carrots, and then we played a food chain game where we talked about the different diets of lots of animals such as carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. Finally we explored the park and met lots of hungry goats and alpacas!
We had a wonderful time and would like to thank the parent helpers and staff at Kingston Maurward for making our trip happen.
Today we visited the library and looked at lots of different books!
We have been super busy this half term, here are a few pictures to show what we have been up to!
Yesterday, Rainbow Fish class went on a walk to look at different types of houses. We saw detached houses, semi-detached houses, terrace houses and flats.
Our retelling of the Three Little Pigs
These two made a huge house for the three little pigs!
These three made a map of a road with traffic lights, stop signs and roundabouts!
Awards given last week but well done to everyone for their hard work!
What a fantastic start to the year we have had!
The children have had lots of fun exploring and becoming familiar with their new classroom. They have all been keen to show off their incredible reading, writing and maths skills and put these into practice.
We have been consolidating our numbers to 10. Counting forwards, backwards and representing numbers.
