Hello Year 3!

I know we have lots of log ins and information at the moment so I’ve made a table to help you muddle your way through.

  • This is work and apps we should be trying really hard to do every day and are very important for when we go back to school.

  • These are the pieces of work that are still very important and would be fantastic if you can complete

  • These activities are for if you have time that day or are feeling like doing a little extra!

I know this time is tricky and confusing for everyone so please just continue to try your best and remember we are all very proud of what a fantastic job you and your adults are doing!

Tuesday 2nd June 2020

Hello lovely children,

I am missing you all greatly and can't wait to see you all again when it is safe to do so.

I am preparing our page for the Newsletter this week. If you have any picture you'd like me to fit on please send it to our email address. I will try and fit in as much as I can! If you have already sent some photos I will go through them and add some of them in - don't worry! They do not need to be of work they can be or things you have been working on at home and any achievements you have made such as: learning to ride a bike, art work or lego models!

Remember we are in our last week of tournament with the other Blandford schools on TT Rock Stars so try to go on as much as you can!

Hello to the most hard working children I know!

I was thinking about all my favourite memories from our year so far and I managed to narrow them down to three:

- Erupting the volcanoes

- Going on our trip to Charmouth

- Singing My Light House!

Which one was your favourite memory? Do you have any that I might have forgotten (you know how bad my memory is!).

Thank you to all the wonderful Year 3 children and adults at home for supporting this strange home learning journey we have all found ourselves on. I hope you all have a relaxing Easter half term.

If you are expecting a reply from the class email, it is on its way but needs to go through the school office first. Thank you so much for your patience and please continue to send in any questions you may have.

Tuesday 24th March 2020 – Day 2: I will upload home learning as both a PDF and a Word Document from now on.

Tuesday 24th March 2020 – Day 2

Hello wonderful children,

I hope your first day of home schooling went well and you impressed the grown-ups at home with how amazing you are at Maths, English and Reading!

Physical Education

Today I would encourage you all to do the Body Coach’s 30 minute PE workout at 9am. You can find this on YouTube by searching ‘The Body Coach’ or clicking on this link:

If you still have lots of energy then try a Go Noodle workout on YouTube ( ) or try a Cosmic Yoga work out on YouTube to stretch out your muscles and increase your flexibility (

If you cannot access YouTube there are some stretches at the back of your booklet which starts with the sign language sheet.

Reading and Handwriting: 40 minutes

Reading: Remember you need to read for 20 minutes every day and record it in your diary. Here is a link to Giraffes can’t dance for you to listen to and watch as well:

If you would like to listen to David Walliams read stories from The World’s Worst Children click on this link: for story time at 11 am.

Handwriting: Please complete the next page on your handwriting sheet of the Year 3 and 4 spelling words. Be careful with your handwriting, it has been beautiful all year so make sure it doesn’t slip!

English: 50 minutes

To warm up your English brain please complete the English side of you usual morning job:

Today’s job is to complete your box up for your original story. You can also use today to finish any English jobs from yesterday.

Box 1 will need: a fronted adverbial, adjectives, adverbs and expanded noun phrases

Box 2 will need: a fronted adverbial, adjectives, adverbs, expanded noun phrases and prepositions

Box 3 will need: a fronted adverbial, adjectives, adverbs, expanded noun phrases and inverted commas

Box 4 will need: a fronted adverbial, adjectives, adverbs, expanded noun phrases and inverted commas

Box 5 will need: a fronted adverbial, adjectives, adverbs, expanded noun phrases and inverted commas

Once you have finished your box up, circle where you have included all of the above features to make sure this is your best story!

Maths : 50 minutes

Please draw out the above in your blue book and complete the questions for the number 126.

Please complete the second page of the stapled pages that says Ordering Numbers.

  • Remember: ascending means the numbers are getting bigger (smallest to biggest).
  • Descending means the numbers are getting smaller (biggest to smallest)

Questions that ask you to ‘Prove it’ or ‘Explain’ need a written answer using the word because.

If you finish these questions, there are maths challenges posted on the blog every day to complete.

Times tables - 20 minutes

Please spend 20 minutes on TT RockStars or practising your times tables in any way you would like. Try to write a new times tables song to help you remember them or create a times table poster to hang in your room.

A really lovely project for you to start today would be to create a rainbow to stick in your window for everyone to see. Whilst your friends and neighbours are all staying at home to keep everyone safe they may be able to go out for walks. As they are walking, they won’t be able to speak to anyone new but they will be able to see your beautiful rainbow pictures and play ‘I Spy’ with rainbows. Children across the world are doing this art project and below are some examples of their work:

Monday 23rd March 2020 – Day 1

Hello to all my lovely students,

The picture below is just a little reminder that even though things are different and a little strange we are still the BFG Base, I am still your teacher and I am still so incredibly proud of every single one of you. I am super excited to see all the amazing learning you are going to be doing and the adventures you will get up to in your own houses!

If there is any work, pictures, drawings or anything you would like me to see, please send them to the school and I will pick them up!

Now, down to the business of keeping up the fantastic progress you have made this year!

In your pack, you will find a plastic wallet with your English jobs in. There is a box up with the Door in the Mountain on one-half and then space for you to start planning your own original story, which can be as similar or different from The Door in Mountain as you would like. This is your hot task, so it is completely independent. The only thing the story must have is a portal!

You will need to think about what your original story will be then complete these jobs:

  1. In your book, draw your main character/characters and label them with adjectives describing their appearance and personality.
  2. Then draw the new land and label it with prepositions and adjectives, for example - Above Amy was a tall, green tree. Underneath her danced beautiful, golden flowers.
  3. Plan the Title and first two boxes of the box up. Remember this is your plan so do not write out the whole story. You will need to include:
  • Fronted adverbials you might use (Later, One sunny morning, Suddenly, Amazed etc.)
  • Powerful adjectives and adverbs
  • Expanded noun phrases with the correct punctuation
  • Prepositions

This job should take an hour over all; however, I am aware that we work at different paces. The first two jobs should take 30 minutes together, if your child is spending a long time over colouring and drawing please encourage them to move on to the box up writing. There will be time to finish the colouring and drawing on Tuesday after they have finished their box-up and editing.

Please look at these High Frequency words below and practice them in your favourite way: rainbow writing, pyramids, pictures and so on.

  • Another
  • Clothes
  • Always
  • Coming
  • Different
  • Everyone
  • Friends
  • Look

There is a PDF attached of the top 200 High Frequency Words which we all should be spelling correctly, if there are any you are finding particularly tricky please practice them. These words are also in your Diary for Year 1 and 2 spelling lists and some are in our Year 3 and 4 spelling list as well.

As a brain warm up please complete pages 32 and 36 in your Math Busy Book – give yourself 10/15 minutes to complete these pages. Do not worry if you do not finish them, it is only a brain warm up!

Then use the number 482 to partition (part, part, whole), 1 more, 1 less, 10 more, 10 less, 100 more, 100 less, multiply by 2, 3 and 4 and as a challenge half 482.

Please complete the first page of the stapled pages that says Ordering Numbers.

  • Remember: ascending means the numbers are getting bigger (smallest to biggest).
  • Descending means the numbers are getting smaller (biggest to smallest)

Questions that ask you to ‘Prove it’ or ‘Explain’ need a written answer using the word ‘because’.

If you finish these questions, there are maths challenges posted on the blog every day to complete.

Please read every day for at least 20 minutes to yourself or an adult and record this in your diary.

Ask your adult to look at this website Books on here are FREE to use at the moment, adults you just need to sign up to the website.

Extra Activities

  • You have a booklet that has ‘Learn to Finger Spell’ as the first page. You could practice the British sign language alphabet and learn to spell your name and other words. This is what I will be doing!
  • If you type the Body Coach into YouTube you can join thousands of children across the country in PE workouts at 9am every week day -
  • If you have access to a laptop or iPad there are many games on the Useful Links star that you can access – TT Rockstars, Spelling Shed, Marlon’s Adventures and many more.
  • In the back of your blue book, please feel free to start a diary to make a record of this time where everything is a little bit different!
  • - Go Noodle is a brilliant way to get active in the house.
  • Cosmic Yoga- great for exercise and mindfulness.
