School Closure Learning for Reception Class

  Friday 3rd April

Good Morning children.  Buenos Días niños.

Mrs Peters has had visitors in her garden again!! I really think they might be looking for a nest site.  Mrs Peters will let me know what happens during the Easter holidays and then we will let you know.

This would have been the last day of the school term before we started our Easter break but instead it is the end of the first two weeks of school closure. I think to day would be a good day to look back through the work that has been on here and see if there is anything you would like to try again or haven't had time to do yet.

You will have seen that there is an Easter holiday page and in here there are some ideas for things to do during the next two weeks.Lots of today's activities will be good to do next week too.

I hope you are getting used to home learning now and that you are all being as wonderful as you always are. Thank you for all your hard work together, it has been truly wonderful to see all the photos of your hard work and  as I have said before it really makes my day to see them.  Remember to be kind, loving and helpful to your families.

I wish all of  you and your families a happy, peaceful and joyful Easter.

  So for today ....

Are you still keeping up with your early  morning workout with Jo Wicks?

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAxW1XT0iEJo0TYlRfn6rYQ

You could carry on with your weather chart as it will be really interesting to look back and see what the weather has been like.

Last week you had  a Picture News to look at together so I have put another one for you here it has some good ideas for fun at home.

I have also got these maths activities from White Rose Maths which are all based around this lovely Easter story which you can watch here.

Thursday 2nd April

Good Morning children.  Buenos Días niños !!

How are you all this morning ?  How was the first day of April for you? I hope you enjoyed listening to the rabbit story yesterday and trying all the bunny activities. I didn’t see any rabbits on my walk this morning but I did see this bird by the river – it is another one from our Lost Words book. Do you remember what it is called?

It is a heron, it was standing very still waiting to catch a fish, but it didn’t do a very good job because when it dived down for the fish it got it’s beak stuck in the reeds at the edge of the river!! Hopefully it will have better luck next time.

Sorry the pictures are  a bit blurry I’m afraid Pippa would not sit still and she pulled on her lead just I was taking the photos!!

Did you do the ‘brain break’  yesterday?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwT5oX_mqS0

Are you still keeping up with your early  morning workout with Jo Wicks?

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAxW1XT0iEJo0TYlRfn6rYQ

We were finding out about rabbits yesterday. This morning listen and join in with this book and song. It is one of our favourite songs in Reception.

Hop Little Bunnies (Sleeping Bunnies) sung by Justin Fletcher (Mr Tumble)

Join the sleepy animals as they wake up in this bouncy, energetic song! Hop with the bunnies, cheep with the chicks, baa with the lambs and mew with the kitt...

There were lots of different animals in the story weren’t there. Can you think of any other baby animals that could be in the song?

See the little bear cubs Sleeping till it’s noon.

Shall we try and wake them with a merry tune?

Oh how still, are they ill?

Wake up bear cubs

growl Little bear cubs, growl, growl, growl

Now stop, shhh

I had another message from Mrs Peters because she has had another bird visitor in her garden! She opened her front door and look who was standing there.

I wonder if she is looking for somewhere to build her nest? Mrs Peters is going to let us know.

Today I would like you to listen to these books all about rabbits.  Rabbits are often   use as a symbol of Easter and also spring. Some of you might be lucky enough to have a rabbit as a pet!! Sometimes when I take Pippa for a walk I see lots of rabbits on the meadows by the river but I have to make sure Pippa doesn’t see them otherwise she tries to chase them!!

Did you watch the films about Easter? Did you see the beautiful flower cross that they made? Why not try making one of those at home. Here’s one we made last year in school.

At the bottom of the cross you can see our lovely Easter garden – why not try making one of these. Here are some ideas to get you started. I am going to make one too. The cross in the garden is to remind Christians that Jesus died on the cross but He came back to life and that is what Christians  celebrate on Easter Sunday.

Tuesday 31st March

Good Morning Reception Class.

I can see that some of you have been very very busy at home- well done!! Thank you for sharing your home learning with us all.

Yesterday I spoke to Mrs Peters and she wanted me to say a BIG HELLO to you all and hopes you are all well. She also told me about some very interesting visitors she has had in her garden. Do you know what these are? One of these is a male (Daddy) bird and the other one is a female ( Mummy). Talk to your family about them, what are these birds? Do you know what the male and female are called? Mrs Peters says that the male goes to visit her garden nearly every afternoon and now the females have started to visit too. They like to eat the bird food from the grass that the other birds drop - you can see the male bird looking up at the bird feeders waiting for some food to be dropped for him!! I wonder if they are thinking of making a nest in Mrs Peters garden – she is going to keep an eye on them for us and then we will let you know!

Today you will need to get your blue book ready and then play this game here. It is the hiding game that we have played in class.

Look at the pictures and then write down which one has disappeared. Then look to see if  you are right!

This week if we had still been at school we would have started to talk about the Christian Festival of Easter which is happening soon.

What do you know about Easter? Do you know why Easter is so important to Christians? There is a story in the bible about Easter because it is an important part of the story about Jesus’ life. Today I would like you to talk to your family about Easter and then watch the Cbeebies 'Let's Celebrate' films together. When you watch them you can see a family preparing for Easter and you will hear more about what Christians are celebrating at Easter.

Why not have a look at the songs under the Singing fun rainbow and try singing along or try some of the ideas on the activity sheets linked to each song.

Have a good day together again today!

Good Morning Reception Class.

How was your weekend? Did you get up to anything interesting?  I did lots of gardening , I had to pull lots of ivy off my fence so we could fix the fence. I found some  interesting creatures – have a look

.

I am not sure what type of caterpillar this is so I will find out for you. Although one snail had woken up these two were still asleep.  I think they had been hibernating for the winter.

Can you remember what hibernation is? Talk to your grown ups about it and I wonder whether you can remember any other animals that hibernate.

Something else I wanted to show you was the flowers that have come out on the plant we had in class do you remember it? Well you might remember that it was very tall and  it had lots of buds on it so I brought it home and look what has happened to it now!! There are four flowers on it - aren't they amazing.

If you  have time today you could try to draw or paint this beautiful flower. It is called an amaryllis.

Are you still keeping up with your early  morning workout with Jo Wicks?

How is the weather chart doing? So far every day has had the same weather hasn’t it –  but I think today you might be able to draw something different. Keep filling it in though it will be interesting to look back at it as time goes on.  Have you found out which  new month is starting this week?

On my walk with Pippa this morning I saw the sunrise, it was amazing  look at all the beautiful colours in the sky.

Today I would like you to listen to this story.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HusFHbN_96Y

ADULTS : you might need to stop this story and talk about certain parts of it for example when he goes onto the mountain and his voice echoes – what does this mean, have you ever heard an echo?

After you have listened to this lovely story talk to your grown ups about what Little Bear did, what did he want to do? How did he solve the problem in the story. Did you like the ending?

In your blue book can you draw Little Bear , you could draw him looking at the moon, in his boat or choosing a hat for Little Bear. Try your best to write a sentence to go with your picture please.

Thursday 26th March

Good Morning Reception Class. I hope you are beginning to settle into your new routine of home school now. I have a special place in my house where I can do my work. As usual I have already been for my walk with Pippa and today I saw something wonderful!! It was a very special bird that lives by the river and we learnt about it when we had our beautiful Lost Words book. Yes -  it was a kingfisher it flew along the bank of the river very fast - perhaps it is looking for somewhere  in the riverbank to make a nest hole.

This morning you  can either do your early morning workout with Jo Wicks as usual or you could try one of the activities   here

https://imoves.com/the-imovement

How did you get on yesterday looking for signs of Spring? Did you have a talk about the photograph I put on here? Do you know what they are called?  If you weren’t sure they are called pussy willow. I saw these ones by the river and I have some in my garden too. If you click on this link you will be able to listen to  a story about Spring and find out more facts. Did you do your Spring writing yesterday?

https://bookflix.digital.scholastic.com/pair/detail/bk0111pr/start?authCtx=U.794217314

There are lots of beautiful Spring flowers can you paint, draw or maybe even make your own Spring flowers?

If you haven’t already done so please  log in to  Maths with Parents, well done to those children who did this job yesterday and thank you for  the photos so I could see what you had been doing for those that gave permission I have put them onto our class blog under home learning gallery. There is a new topic to explore  now and  after you have done this you could play a more than/less than game. Get your number cards to 10 and lay them face down take it in turns to pick a card and then ask your partner to say the number 1 more or 1 less than it. When you are really confident with this you could try changing it to say 2 more/2 less and so on. You could record the numbers you get in your blue book.

DON’T FORGET TO DO YOUR READING TODAY!!

Phonics – if you can then use your phonics hero log in to play one of the games or if you want to try something different then go to

https://www.phonicsbloom.com/uk/game/flash-cards-time-trial?phase=3

Here is a spelling game for you  to try too.

Ask an adult to  read these words so you can write them down remember to use your robot arms to help you.

see, fee, tree, root, zoom, wood, look, book

Finally use the  picture  below to write the sentence  ‘The tree is in the book.’ Adults please say the sentence, then your child needs to say it back to you and then they need to write it independently.

I noticed lots of pictures of rainbows in house windows today - have you made one to put up in your window yet? Why not try that today? You could paint, draw or make one   - here's some pictures to inspire you.

 Wednesday  25th March

Good Morning Reception Class. I hope you all managed to spend some time outside in the gorgeous sunshine. Wasn’t it a lovely day. Did you have a think about that tapping sound I could hear on my walk with Pippa the dog?

Well I couldn’t believe what I saw it was a woodpecker tapping away on the telegraph pole near my house. I can see he has made lots of holes in it. I wonder if I will see or hear him again? Signs of Spring

Tuesday  24th March

Good Morning Reception Class. I hope you all had a good day yesterday. It was very sunny wasn’t it. When I took my dog Pippa out for her walk this morning it was very frosty and misty by the river  and on my home  I could hear a   tapping sound – can you guess what it was? Have a chat about it with your family and I will tell you tomorrow what it was.

I have a few jobs for you to do together today  and your grown ups will be able to tell you about them and help you if  needed.

Don’t forget  you can join in with a morning workout with Jo Wicks on his you tube channel - did you try it yesterday?

 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAxW1XT0iEJo0TYlRfn6rYQ - it starts at 9am.

Complete  your daily weather chart. What day is it today? Can you write the day in the first box ? Now find out what number day it is today and write that in the box too. If you are not sure what the number looks like then use the 100 square in your pack to help you. After  that draw a picture to show the weather for today.

Read one of your reading books together and then if there is time share a favourite story together. Which character do you like best in the story? Do you like the story ending? Was there a problem in the story and did the characters sort it out? Draw your character in your blue book and write a sentence about who it is.

If you have not already done so then please try to log into Phonics Hero today. When you log in your child will need to complete the Placement Test so that they start at the correct level. They will need to do this in a quiet space and as independently as possible then they will be starting at the level they need.  Well done to all those children who made start on this yesterday – what a great effort, you have been working hard.

Daily phonics - Practice the sounds your child is working on and blend words. This can be oral blending (e.g. spoken out loud c-a-t) or written if appropriate.

Play phonics noughts and crosses. Draw out a grid and write a letter, digraph, trigraph or tricky word in each part of the grid. Take it in turns to name what is written in the grid. If you say it correctly you can add your nought or cross in that square

.

There is a handwriting practise sheet in your pack but you can also log into our handwriting  program Letterjoin through the school website. You can use either a computer or do this on a tablet.

You will need these details to log on. Once you have logged in then go to Class 1 to start practising. You can start with the patterns and then move onto the easy letters. There is also a useful handwriting guide for ADULTS to look at.

If you haven’t already done so please  log in to  Maths with Parents, well done to those children who did this job yesterday and thank you for  the photos so I could see what you had been doing.

Watch numberblocks episode 12

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0002674/numberblocks-series-3-twelve

Use this guide to  give you ideas on what to do with your children whilst watching an episode of numberblocks

  https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/joinin/numberblocks-help-your-child-with-maths

Can you find number 12 from your number cards? Practise ordering the numbers to 12 and try writing it too. Can you do a page of number formation from your book?

,

If you can go outside into a garden or onto a balcony and it is safe to do so then why not see whether you can spot any of the birds from our bird watch and see whether you can spot any signs that Spring is on the way. You could draw any birds you spot in your blue book.

Monday 23rd March

Good Morning Reception Class. I hope you have all had a good weekend with your lovely families and that you managed to enjoy  some of the lovely sunshine we had on Saturday and Sunday. I know you were not all in school last week before we had to close the school so I hope that if you have been feeling poorly you are feeling better now. I also wanted to tell you that I talked to your friends in school last week about school closing because we were all feeling  a little bit sad about it. I told them that although it is sad that school is closed at the moment  and we will miss seeing each other at school the grown ups in London who look after us all have decided that to help us all stay safe school will closed for the time being. We will all see each other again soon and I am looking forward to hearing about your time at home together. I showed  your friends  this page and if you look  back on the class page  you will be able to see photos of some of your friends and of our lovely classroom.

Every day I will write something on here to help you and your grown ups do some fun learning at home together. It is really important that you listen carefully to your grown ups at home and try your very best at the jobs I ask them to do with you. I know you will all do your best and I cannot wait to hear how you all get on together.

ADULTS Please do not worry if you do not manage to do all of these today, this a new experience and it may take a while to establish a ’home school’ routine but it would be a good to decide on a daily routine A suggested routine could be

              1. Weather chart and talk about the day of the week and it’s number , the children love talking to me about the weather.

2. If you can then look at the website and see what is on the daily ‘jobs’.

3. Do 1 of the ‘jobs’ then have a playing time. Next do some reading  together.

4. Have a snack and drink break .

5. If you are able to then go outside for a some fresh air and a play.

6.Do the phonics work or log into Phonics Hero

7. Try some maths

8. It’s probably lunchtime by now!!

9. Spend the afternoon playing games together , making things or being outside.

This is just a suggestion so please don’t feel you have to follow this but it might help to get you started.

I have a few jobs for you to do together today  and your grown ups will be able to tell you about them and help you if  needed.

This morning you can join in with a morning workout with Jo Wicks on his you tube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAxW1XT0iEJo0TYlRfn6rYQ - it starts at 9am.

Monday 23rd March 2020

Start your daily weather chart.

I would like all of you to try to log into Phonics Hero today. When you log in your child will need to complete the Placement Test so that they start at the correct level. They will need to do this in a quiet space and as independently as possible then they will be starting at the level they need. I will be able to see who has completed this.

Get the sound cards ready to use as flashcards. They need to be cut up and then you can use them as flashcards for your child.

Watch the story Whatever Next !  https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5wvke7

Some of you might have this book at home and some of you listened to it last week. Listen to it again together. After you have watched it I would like you to draw Baby Bear in his rocket in your book and write  a  sentence  about it you could write  ‘ He went to the moon in his rocket’ or ‘He is in his rocket ‘ or a super sentence of your own, make sure you can read it to your grown ups when you have written it.

ADULTS I would like you  to ask  your child what sentence they want to write  and ask them to repeat it to you, then they can try writing it. If they are not sure of the sounds they can use the sound sheet in the pack.  The important thing is that they ‘have a go’

First of all I would like you to log in to  Maths with Parents  , I will be able to see who has registered have a look at the Introductory Video and then perhaps try the activity too.  Make sure today that the number cards are cut up and ready to use. Do some counting  to 10 and then 20.

Perhaps you could make a rocket like Baby Bear  and pretend to go to the moon!!

I hope you have a good day together !!
