What About Holidays - can I take my children out of school?
This is a tricky one and certainly an issue that is very 'live' at the moment. Recently (2013) the government has changed legislation to say that Headteachers can only give permission for families to remove their children from school for holidays in exceptional circumstances. as a group of schools in Blandford - we have agreed that these exceptional circumstances are:
- Bereavement
- Family Wedding
- Leave related to military services and their return to UK or posting
- Children in care requesting time away from school
- Families requesting time for respite
- Families requesting time for religious observance
If you take your children out of school without the time being authorised by the headteacher it will be recorded as an unauthorised absence. You could then be required to pay a fine by authorities. In time - you may find you are required to attend an attendance panel either in school or within the Blandford Network to discuss your unauthorised absences.
Holiday is taken to mean any time out of school with the exception of medical appointments, being educated at an alternative venue or any of the exceptional circumstances above.
