'Knowing we are loved, we learn and grow to be the best that we can be.'

Week beginning 04.01.2021

Friday 8th January.

Thank you so much for all the emails and photos added to Tapestry. It really is wonderful for me to see all your home learning and to hear how much you are enjoying your home school!! I have added a selection of the photos to our new home learning gallery page on here. If you have sent me photos and there is nothing on there from you then it will be because there is no consent on Arbor. If you are happy for me to put photos from you on our blog you must give your consent on Arbor please - thank you for your help with this.

It was so cold when I went outside before bedtime last night that I was sure it was going to snow. It was very cold when I walked over to school again this morning. On my way home yesterday I heard a bird singing away in bush and guess what it was !! It was a little robin just like the one  in our lovely story. I wanted to take a picture of it but it was a bit too far away.

I think I know what weather you will draw for your calendars today but do you know what day it is and the number? Don't forget to fill it in and talk about to today.

So today we are probably going to want to check out our ice lanterns or frozen pots if you made any and if you didn't have time then just pop outside again and see if there is any ice today.

We are going to find out a bit more about robins today so I have some little films for you to watch to find out some robin facts.

This is "Robin" by The RSPB

Robin Bird Singing in The Snow

Now I would like you to draw a really careful picture of a robin looking at all the parts of it's body. When you have drawn it  or made it or even painted it we are going to write some labels for it. You can see one that I have done here. You will be able to write lots of these words on your own so make sure you try really hard. I have written some sentences for mine too.
I thought you would like to listen to this lovely poem about a robin too.

PHONICS

Today to start our phonics time I would like you to log into the website Phonicsplay. The details for this are as follows:

You may log in with the following details:

username: jan21

password: home

When you have logged in I would like you to go to the resources page and play one of  the flashcards game. When prompted choose sounds from Phase 2  that your child still needs parctise with as well as j,v,w,x,y,z,zz,qu,sh,ch,th,ng.

After this we are going to play another one of the games on phonics play which is Space race. Now although the words need to be typed into this game in school we alway write them first and then type them in to check our spelling. I hope you enjoy this game today.

MATHEMATICS

Today we will be using the mathematics as we did yesterday. Please follow the link below and use Alive in 5 session 4.

I have added the downloadable number cards which you could print off but it is easy to make your own. Just cut up paper into small squares and add images similar to the ones shown in the game.

if you click on the link below there is a super subitising game to play.Spin the wheel and each time to correctly recognise the quantity eliminate it from the wheel.

You might be wondering why we have been finding out about robins well this term IF we had been in school we would have been taking part in the BIg school birdwatch run by the RSPB , this is one of Mrs Peters and my favourite learning themes and we are  really sad that we won't be able to do it together but I think you will  be fantastic birdwatchers and  instead of doing it at school you will be able to take part in the RSPB Big garden birdwatch in a few weeks time. At the moment though we need to make sure that birds start to visit your gardens and that they have enough to eat and drink while it is so cold. You could make some bird feeders  and there are some ideas below to help with this. Next week we will be finding out more about our garden birds so that you will be able to recognise them when they come into your garden or if you spot them whenyou are out for a walk, I wonder if you know any other bird names?

I have  also added these two extra robin craft ideas for those that love making things!!

Thursday 7th January 2021.

Good morning children!!  I have had a very cold and frosty walk to school this morning. have you looked outside to see what the weather is like today? What pictures will you draw for your calendar today I wonder. Do you know the number for today? It is 1 more than 6 and 1 less than 8.

Thank you for sending me the photos of your home learning from yesterday. I can see how hard you are working and that makes me so proud of you all.If you have sent me photos or put them on tapestry then thank you.  This morning you might want to do the activity outside first of all while it is still cold and frosty!!

ADULTS: If you have given consent on Arbor for photos to be shared online then I will be able to put the photos on our blog. You will be able to see them under the rainbow Home learning gallery.

When I arrived in school today I thought I would just see if Moss our little christmas mouse was still around. Well when I opened the tin I got such a surprise as you can see in the photos below!!

It looks like we have a new little mouse  friend to keep us company- it's Snowdrop the winter mouse. Then I noticed under the tin was a present and another little message.

You will find out later what was inside the present. Isn't that kind of Moss to leave us a present, we will miss him too but it is exciting that Snowdrop has come to visit us now. She must know all about winter  unlike the  little robin in our story  yesterday. So for today's writing activity I would like you to draw a storymap for this story. You might like to listen to the story again to help you.

Robin Story

Here you can see a storymap that I have made for the story. I had to remember to get the animals in the right order.

Teddy Sweet Shop 🍬 Today I would like you try and play this game together to practise reading words  with sh, ch, th. So you will need to label each bag or plate  with sh, ch or th and then on the sweets or cookies write some words for your child to read. You can make some pretend sweets or even use round paper bits to be little cookies.

Her some words to get you started ship, shot, fish, fish, shell, shop, chop, chip, chat, chuck, thin, that, this, then.

Your child picks up a sweet or cookie  reads the word and then puts it in the correct bag. Once you've sorted all the words you can count how many each teddy has and therefore prompt mathematical development. You could even talk about simple division. "There were 12 sweets and we shared them between three teddies how many did they get each?"

MATHEMATICS

Today we will be using the mathematics as we did yesterday. Please follow the link below and use Alive in 5 session 3.

The game with the beanbags can be played with other items too such as balls into a bucket, small soft toys thrown onto a mat or circle made of scarves I am sure you will come up with some great ideas for this game.  The children need to be talking about how many items are in the bucket or hoop, how many are not in there and how many are there altogether so what is the whole number. Can they find a way of recording the score each time in the game?

READING

It is really important that you do some daily reading. I know you do not have the reading books from school at the moment but if you go to the following website

https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/reading/

then you need to click on Free e-book library

https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/reading/free-ebooks/

from this page you will need to create a free account so that you can read the books online

https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/

Do you remember  I told you that we would see what was in the present from Moss later on, well when I opened it inside was this beautiful book.

You can listen to the story below I hope you enjoy it.

Winter story

We have been listening to stories about winter. Winter is one of the four seasons, I wonder if you remember the other ones? What have we found out happens during the winter? I would like you to draw  or paint or even make  a picture showing some things that happen in winter so it could be a snowy scene or animals hibernating or people dressed up ready for winter.
You could go outside today and explore the frozen world outside. can you find any ice ? It might freeze again tonight  you could try filling containers with water and adding natural items leave them overnight and see if they are frozen tomorrow.

Good morning children. I know you will have tried really hard with your home learning yesterday so here are today's jobs for you to do together.

First of all this morning I would like you to work togther to create a calendar that you can keep during the next few weeks. Do you remember how we talk about what day of the week it is and what the date or number is for that day and also we like to have a little chat about the weather too don't we.So you will be able to do this each day at home and here are a couple of photos to help you design your calendar. You just need paper pieces and some colouring pens.

Remember these are just ideas to get you started. I can't wait to see these lovely calendars!!

After that I would like you to listen to this story that i have read for you I hope you enjoy it!!

Robin's Winter Song

Isn't this the most ,lovely story? Did you remember the names of the seasons? Robin didn't know much about them did he? I wonder if you can remember the seson we are in now? It is the seson that Robin was waiting for and it turned out that he loved it!!

Can you remember all the creatures that Robin spoke to during the story? You might need to listen to it again to remind yourself or these pictures might help you!!

Now I would like you to draw a picture of Robin with one of these creatures or you can draw all of them. You can try to write the names of the creatures by your drawings too. You will easily be able to write Robin by yourself and you can try to sound out the names of the others.

Phonics

Fig and Dom still want you to work really hard at your letters and sounds.

This week we are going to recap sounds we learnt before Christmas and also practise some word reading and writing.

Now try playing this game together.

Phonics Memory Game 🤔🧠

Place out a selection of objects and let your child have a minute or two to look at them and try and memorise them. Place a cloth over them and as you lift it remove one of the items. Your child now has to recall which item is missing and write it down.

For younger children you could provide word cards for them and they have to then hold up the word card for the item that is missing. Adapt the objects for age and phase.

For children working on initial sounds you could have a few letter cards under the cloth. Hide one of the cards and then your child identifies which one is missing and holds up the matching letter card.

The number of items you place out will vary with age. The average number of items an adult can remember is 7 (7 plus or minus 2). I normally put out the number of objects corresponding to your child's age, so 4 for a 4 year old, up to a maximum of 7. The objects in these pictures contain sounds we have not learnt yet so how about using words like dog, cat, doll, bun, bus, jam, bug, bat etc if you don't have the items then you could draw them instead!! Your child can help you write the words too.

I think you might need a bit of a rest after all that hard work!!

However if you are still keen for more learning then you might be able to draw or paint or make a lovely robin picture like the one here.
