Week beginning 11.01.2021

Friday 15th January

Good morning everyone!  I had a lovely email yesterday from one of our friends with some very exciting news. Can you see who now has a new baby brother, doesn’t she look proud and I am sure will be a fantastic older sister. Congratulations to you all!!

So let’s start with today’s learning…

It is the last day of the school week today can you remember what that is? Have a look outside and decide what weather you will put on your calendar today.  I have seen come super calendars in use.Do you know what today’s number is? I wonder if you know or can find out the number which is one more than today’s number.

Well done for all the writing yesterday I am so impressed with how much your drawing and writing is improving – well done all of you.

Our writing will be part of our phonics today. We will start the day by listening to a story.

Dawn chorus

PHONICS

I would like you to use your log in for Teach your monster to read and get started on it please. The log in is on Tapestry.

Do you remember the new sounds Fig and Dom have taught us this week? They have been very impressed with how hard you’ve worked this week. We are going to use the sounds we've learnt to play a game of bingo today. First of all though you will need to  make and write down your bingo card and words. It will need 8 squares and then you need to choose which words to write so here are the pictures we have used this week, you need to decide which 8 you are going to write and put one word in each box   when I made mine I drew a little picture with it too but you don't have to do that bit, the writing is the important part please!! Once you have done this bit then head over to tapestry where I will be  showing you the pictures and then if you have the word on your bingo card you can cross it off. Perhaps a grown up or older brother or sister will play with you too.

Here is my bingo card but don't copy my words use the pictures below to choose your 8 words!!

MATHEMATICS

Today for maths I would like to us ethe new Numbots log in I have given you on Tapestry and have a go at playing a game on it.

There is also another Numberblocks about 5 but by now you are all experts at ways of making 5.

READING

It is really important that you do some daily reading. I know you do not have the reading books from school at the moment but if you go to the following website

https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/reading/

then you need to click on Free e-book library

https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/reading/free-ebooks/

from this page you will need to create a free account so that you can read the books online

I have a mindfulness activity for you to try today.

Mini-mindfulness: Smiling Heart

Smiling heart - guidance for parents and carers

  • Best done in a quietish space, but don't worry if this is an issue.
  • Ask your little ones to find their heart, help them by finding yours. Make it a game.
  • Explain this is where all their feelings come from.
  • Put your hand on their heart. They put their hand on your heart. This helps to build connection.
  • Breathe, in and out, watching/feeling your chests rise and fall. Remember their breaths will be shorter than yours.
  • Now ask them to imagine their heart is smiling.
    • "Smile from the heart. Imagine."
  • Now see if you can both smile from your heart, into your chest.
  • Breathing, in and out, gently, the whole time.
  • Now ask them to bring that smile onto their lips. Can you?
    • "Smile from the heart and bring it to rest on your lips."
    • "Now send that smile out into the world, to your family, and friends."
    • "To your teachers, to everyone knows you, and those who don't."
  • Now come back to the breath, open your eyes, and smile at each other.
  • Today, bring that smile back to your heart, and onto your lips. Let us know what happens.
  • For a good follow on, activity. Get some pens and an A4 piece of paper. Draw a big heart in the middle. In the heart, write in it all those who love you. On the outside, all those you love. Colour it in, and pin it to your fridge to remind you.
  • Let us try is Let us try to  celebrate  gratitude, amid the negativity. Helping your child to see the positives is especially important for them, and us right now. You can make a Gratitude Jar to keep them in. Here are the instructions.

Thursday 14th January

Good morning everyone! Thank you so much to those of you that were able to join us for yesterday’s zoom call and if we didn’t see you yesterday then I know we will see you next week!! Mrs Peters and I really enjoyed chatting to you all and seeing all those lovely Christmas presents.

Yesterday we made some feeders at school and we have hung them up in our garden, it is so quiet at school without you all that we are hoping the birds will come and visit us. We sometimes have a cheeky squirrel who likes to eat the bird food so we will have to watch out for that!!

So let’s start with today’s learning…

Do you know what day of the week it is today? I keep telling you on my good morning videos!! I will have to try and not do that. Have a look outside and decide what weather you will put on your calendar today. Do you know what today’s number is? I wonder if you know or can find out the number which is one more than today’s number.

Today we are  going to listen to a fact book about blackbirds and also try to write some speech bubbles for Pip and his bird friends.

To write the speech bubbles you can  draw Pip and his friends  like I have done .Think about the sort of things the birds might say to each other and you could use the birds he met in the story or different birds. he might meet a peacock or a flamingo or a robin.Have a look at mine to help you out.

Here's Pip to help you draw him

When you have finished that you can listen to the fact book about blackbirds you can find this story on tapestry.

PHONICS

Do you remember the new sound Fig and Dom showed you yesterday? Today we are going to watch another alphablocks video to help us with this sound. How many ee words can you spot and read ?

Alphablocks Series 3 - Beep

Now we are going to practise writing a sentence with some ee words in it. Here is today’s picture and the sentence is

I can see a queen bee.

I have added this below as a  document for those that would like it but there is no need to print it out.

MATHEMATICS

Thereis avery quick subitising game on tapestry to start off with today!Today we will be using  the video below we are on Alive in 5 ! week 2 session 4. We have played a hiding game like this at school can you remember it? You will need some items for counting and hiding and a pot or box or cloth to hide them under. Now take it in turns to hide some items , can your partner tell you how many they can see and how many are hiding? Try it with different amounts of items. You could earn a point each time you get the answer correct!!

After that you can try this five frame game click on the link below to play.

Wednesday 13th January

Good morning everyone! Can you guess why I am excited today!!

Thank you again for your engagement with the home learning. I fully appreciate just how tricky juggling home life, home working and home schooling must be and I am full of admiration for you all. Thank you for showing such commitment and enthusiasm for our home learning, be kind to yourselves too you really are all doing a wonderful job.

Mrs Peters and I are very excited about our zoom call this morning and we can’t wait to chat to you all and see you all.I hope you will all have something special to show us or talk to us about.

Adults – as I said in a previous post please don’t worry if your child does not want to join in or is a bit overwhelmed this morning. I know they will be excited and you may well find that they are emotional after the call too. I expect they will have questions again about why some children are in school and why they are at home and may well be upset and perhaps even angry that they cannot come into school too. There is  phonics and maths and reading to do today and as it is our PE day we  have a PE job for today too!!

Don’t forget we will be having our zoom session on this  morning at 10 am.

Please make sure an adult is with your child  throughout the call and that your name will be easily recognisable in the waiting room I want everyone to be included!!

I will keep the microphones on initially but then will ask you to mute yourselves so that each child can have a chance to talk to us.

So let’s start with today’s learning…

Do you know what day of the week it is today? Have a look outside and decide what weather you will put on your calendar today. Do you know what today’s number is? I wonder if you know or can find out the number which is one more than today’s number.

Thank you for all the wonderful  storymaps you have done at home, I have seen some super writing and drawing – well done.

P.E

I would like you to have a look at the GETSET4 PE  document below if you would like to it can be printed out. Then you need to follow the link to the website and go to the Active Families tab, there you will find lots of activites for you to choose from and complete at home. In PE we have been working on ball skills, throwing ,catching, kicking and control of the ball on the ground.

PHONICS

Today I have a game for you to make to practise your sounds and tricky words.

"Tap, Tap, Read" 💬

You can use this game to practise  tricky words, initials sounds, digraphs, trigraphs or decodable words. Super quick and easy to set up too.

You'll need a set of plastic cups, the more the merrier. You could have little boxes just anything that can't be seen through. Arrange the cups into a circle and then place a bit of paper under each one with a word or grapheme on. In the centre of the circle you'll need to write down the winning word.

Your child touches the top of each cup saying tap, tap, tap, read then they read the word under that cup. If it is not the winning word they turn the cup up and continue to say 'tap, tap, read' etc. The goal is to obviously find the winning word.

We have another new sound to learn so you will need to  watch the little video on tapestry with Fig and Dom.

As you will have had some words to read I would like you to  write the words for the pictures below just like you did on Monday.

The words to be written are  seed, teeth, sheep, queen, bee, green, feet

MATHEMATICS

For maths today we are going to watch a numberblocks episode.

In the pictures you can see the different ways the numberblocks have made 5 . Can you draw the numberblocks to show how to make 5 , I wonder if you can make 5 with three different numberblocks? If you work it out can you draw it to show me?

Tuesday 12th January

Good morning everyone!

First of all an apology to all the frustrated adults who were trying to use tapestry yesterday, I was one of them too!! There is not a lot I can do about it unfortunately, I can see that several of you have put up work and made comments but the site just crashes when I try to add my comments, I am so sorry. I know many other teachers and parents are as frustrated as we are. I  have used something different for phonics and maths today and I will try again today for tomorrow. To those of you that have sent in work for me to see thank you I will comment on tapestry as soon as I can and put photos on the website when I can get to them. Again my apologies.

Don’t forget we will be having our zoom session on Wednesday morning at 10 am.

Join Zoom Meeting

Meeting ID: 988 9769 8358

Passcode: 484xb0  Here is the link for the zoom meeting tomorrow morning.

Please make sure an adult is with your child  throughout the call and that your name will be easily recognisable in the waiting room I want everyone to be included!!

I will keep the microphones on initially but then will ask you to mute yourselves so that each child can have a chance to talk to us. I would spend a little bit of time today helping them choose something they would like to show us and thinking about what they might want to say to us all. It is however possible that despite the preparations your child might not feel comfortable speaking to us all on zoom and that is fine, hopefully as the weeks progress they will feel more confident.

So let’s start with today’s learning…

Do you know what day of the week it is today? Have a look outside and decide what weather you will put on your calendar today. Do you know what today’s number is? I wonder if you know or can find out the number which is one more than today’s number.

We really enjoyed the Pip story at school yesterday and I have been very impressed with the drawings and wonderful writing about Pip that I have seen. Today I would like you to listen to the story again and look through the story pictures too.

https://www.facebook.com/katemclellandillustration/videos/blackbird-blackbird/234042230995416/

If you look at the pictures below you can also read through the story again.  I have made the photos from the book into a little film too.

Blackbird blackbird.mp4

Still image for this video

Today’s job is to draw a story map showing all the places and bird friends that Pip met. I have made one to show you here.

I know how great you all are at drawing so on yours you will be able to add more details like the beach for puffin and more of the river for heron. If you need to do more of this tomorrow then that is fine, you can start it today and finish it tomorrow.

PHONICS

Do you remember the new sound we learnt yesterday? Here is a short video  from the alphablocks to remind you.

Alphablocks : Sail - Series 1

We practised reading and writing our new sound yesterday and today we are going to try and write a sentence for this picture.

Adults the sentence is The snail is in the rain.

I would like you to say the sentence and ask your child to repeat it to you , do this a couple of times then they can start to write the sentence. Support them to remember the sentence but try to encourage as much independent spelling as possible. If your child is physically  finding writing  difficult then can you please write down the words, cut them up and ask you child to put the sentence in the correct order they can then copy the words underneath and read the sentence to you.

MATHEMATICS

Today we will be using  the video below we are on Alive in 5 week 2 session 2.

It will be really useful to have some binoculars for bird watching, use these instructions to make yourself a pair ready for birdwatching!!

Monday 11th January

Good morning everyone!

I hope you have all had a good weekend. I did some jobs in my garden which included filling the bird feeders. The birds who visit my garden must have been very hungry last  week!!   While I was doing this I noticed this beautiful bird in the trees. I wonder if you have seen this one  before. It is very colourful

It is called a goldfinch - look out for them in your garden.

Thank you so much for all the emails and photos that I received last week, it was so good to hear from so many of you and to hear how well the home learning is going. Thank you for all the work uploaded to Tapestry, please continue to upload photos and comments there – thank you.

This week I am going to try and add videos for phonics and maths to Tapestry. I hope it works and the children and you find them useful.  They are far from perfect but let me know how you get on. You will see further down when you need to use the phonics video and also the maths one.

We will be having our zoom session on Wednesday morning at 10 am. Tomorrow I will put on here the link to this for you. Please make sure an adult is with your child  throughout the call and that your name will be easily recognisable in the waiting room I want everyone to be included!!

Let's start with our calendar...

Do you know what day of the week it is today? Have a look outside and decide what weather you will put on your calendar today. Do you know what today’s number is? I wonder if you know or can find out the number which is one more than today’s number.

You might also like to use the Getset for PE activity which is avaiable if you scroll down  beneath all the

class page pencil icons.

I know you enjoyed the robin story last week. This week we have a story to start us off about a different garden bird. I wanted to read this one to you too but unfortunately it has not been delivered on time, however we can listen to the lady who wrote and drew the pictures in this book read it for us.

If you look at the pictures below you can also read through the story again. Do you know all the other birds in the story? Have you ever seen a blackbird in your garden or when you are out and about? Today I would like you to draw Pip the blackbird on the branch singing. Can you write a sentence to go with your picture?

You might write This is Pip. He is black. Pip can sing.

ADULTS For writing I would like the children to be able to tell you what they want to write and then to try hard to do this themselves. Do not worry if not all the spellings are correct the important part is that they can say the  sentence and the words  and then use some sounds correctly to spell the words. You will see I have chosen words that are easy for them to both read and write.

Blackbird blackbird what do you do?

PHONICS

Today to start our phonics time I would like you to log into the website Phonicsplay. The details for this are as follows:

You may log in with the following details:

username: jan21

password: home

When you have logged in I would like you to go to the resources page and play one of  the flashcards game. When prompted you will need to choose sounds from Phase 2 as well as j,v,w,x,y,z,zz,qu,sh,ch,th,ng. If you have played this before then you will knowwhich sounds your child needs to focus on and you can just choose those for the game. There is no need for them to practise sounds they know and can confidently recognise.

After this I have put a short video on Tapestry for phonics. We are still learning the sounds in phase 3. These are digraphs and trigraphs and children do find these harder to remember and use. I am hoping to teach two new sounds each week with consolidation  work for each sound too.The children are used to the format of learning a sound reading some words with it in and then writing either words or a sentence. Today we will be writing words using the photos below. the words are train, nail, sail, chain, rain, tail

MATHEMATICS

Today we will be using the mathematics  video on Tapestry to start us off please. After you have watched it there will a short activity to do which you will need paer and something to draw with as well as groups of 5 items such as buttons, cars, etc

You could also see what other birds you can find out about this week. We know the robin and we have seen the blackbird, what other ones do you know? There is aposter here with some other common garden birds on it, see if you recognise any of them. I have also added this as a PDF if you want to print it out and then you cut them out and perhaps make your own garden bird spotting book.
