'Knowing we are loved, we learn and grow to be the best that we can be.'

Week beginning 25.01.2021

Friday 29th January

Good morning everyone!  I have had so many pictures of chefs!! I can see you are all ready for your cooking job today. Thank you to all of the grown ups who are making this experience possible at home. Cooking with all children is an opportunity to develop language skills, mathematical skills and is of course a wonderful skill for life! I already know we have lots of super cooks amongst you all.

It is the last day of the school week today can you remember what that is? Have a look outside and decide what weather you will put on your calendar today. This weekend will be the end of January which is the first month of the year, do you know what month begins on Monday?

Well done for the wonderful little red hen stories yesterday she certainly likes making cakes!!

So today we will be making our pizzas. I will leave it to your grown ups to decide when is best for this activity but in school we will be making them this morning. You will be able to collect the ingredients and help your grown up to make the pizza base following one of the recipes I gave you or your own  recipe.  I can’t wait to see what toppings you have chosen and to see your finished pizzas do you think they will be as big as little red hen’s pizza? I have added some pictures here of ideas as I thought the smiley face pizzas looked great fun and I love the cat ones too.

Do you remember the new sounds Fig and Dom have taught us this week? They have been very impressed with how hard you’ve worked this week use the video today to practise the new sounds and  play a game of bingo – one of our favourites!!

There is a story for you  to listen to on tapestry I hope you enjoy it.

Have a lovely weekend  everyone and I will see you back here for more home learning fun on Monday.

Thursday 21st January

Good morning everyone!  It was wonderful to see your home learning yesterday I can see just how proud you are of all your hard work – well done!! Thank you parents for enabling your children to join in with us, especially those of you that are also juggling home working. We have contacted the DSAT IT support team  to sort out the ongoing  IT issues which I must once again apologise for.

How did you get on with Jo Wicks yesterday? We managed to complete the whole workout  and some extra PE in the afternoon too so  Mrs Peters and I were quite tired afterwards!!

Do you know what day of the week it is today? Have a look outside and decide what weather you will put on your calendar today.

One of our friends has told me all about Andy’s Wild workouts which I hadn’t heard of before – they are great. I have added the link here and perhaps you could try one of these today I know we will in school. Thank you Henry for the great suggestion!!

So we have really enjoyed the story of the Little Red hen and her pizza making. I started wondering what she would like to make next ! I had a think about this and I decided that  I would make up a different story and this time she would like to make a big chocolate cake, I  had to think about what she would need to make it and also which friends she would ask for help. Pop over to tapestry to watch the story of  Little Red hen makes a chocolate cake. I would like you to see if you can think of something else that she could make , you can change the friends too like I did. You could use your puppets from Monday or make a few more to help you with your story. Can you tell your story to your grown ups?

Do you remember the new sound Fig and Dom  taught us yesterday? Well today we will be practising that sound, playing a game  and writing our sentence.

Phonics 28.01.2021

We have been investigating number 6 and I have heard how much you enjoyed the number jumping game yesterday. Today I would like you to watch  the video on tapestry and play the game I am showing you on there.

Keep up with your reading . I know you do not have the reading books from school at the moment but if you go to the following website

then you need to click on Free e-book library

from this page you will need to create a free account so that you can read the books online

You could also use your Teach your monster to read games for reading practise too!!

So tomorrow it would be wonderful if the children could make pizzas but I completely  understand this might not be possible for everyone and I do not want you to  feel you need to go out and get ingredients  especially at the moment.

I have  added  two recipes here one with dried yeast and one without. You will probably have your own recipes so please use those or send them to me to share with everyone!! If you don’t have these to make one of the doughs then pizzas can be also be made by adding toppings to rolls, muffins , pitta bread. In normal times we would have written a shopping list with the children and possibly even taken them shopping for the ingredients, obviously this is not possible but you might still be able to write lists of the ingredients and prepare for tomorrow! You could discuss where the different ingredients have come from, how they are produced and even find out more about where pizzas  were first made.

 Recipe 1

  • STEP 1

Heat the oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6.

  • STEP 2

Mix together 350g flour, 2 ¾ tsp baking powder and 1 tsp salt in a small bowl, add 1 tbsp oil and 170ml water then stir until it forms a ball. If stiff, add more water, it should be soft but not sticky.

  • STEP 3

Knead on a floured surface for 3-4 mins. Roll into 2 balls, then flatten out.

  • STEP 4

Add toppings and bake each on a baking sheet for 15 mins.

Recipe 2

  • 400g plain flour, plus extra to dust
  • 1 x 7g sachet fast action dried yeast
  • 1 tsp fine sea salt
  • 1 tsp caster sugar
  • 2 tbsp olive oil, plus extra to drizzle
  1. Preheat the oven to the hottest it will go (around 240°C, fan 220°C, gas 9), before starting to make the dough. Put in a couple of pizza stones, or 2 large baking trays, to get really hot.
  2. Mix the flour, yeast, salt and sugar together in a mixing bowl. Make a well in the centre and add the oil, then add about 225ml water to bring together as a dough. Tip out onto a floured surface and knead for 1 minute, just until smooth. Leave to rest under the upturned bowl while you prepare your pizza toppings.
  3. It’s time to shape the pizzas! Roll out one ball at a time on a lightly floured surface, to about 25cm in diameter. Sprinkle a large square of baking paper with the cornmeal (or alternative) then lift the dough onto the paper. Stretch and press the pizza dough with your fingertips until it is about 30cm diameter, indenting a thicker crust around the edges. The middle should be about 5mm, and the crust about 1cm deep. Repeat to make a second pizza.
  4. Spread the pizzas with sauce and add your toppings (don’t add too many, or you’ll end up with a soggy pizza). Drizzle with a little oil and leave to rest for 10-15 minutes before baking, so that the dough starts to rise. Slide the pizzas onto the preheated pizza stones or hot baking trays, still on the lining paper to help lift them easily. Bake for 10-15 minutes until the base is golden and crisp.

They have all had great fun making their paper pizzas  as I saw yesterday. So you could make more of those for your role play pizza shop or restaurant!

If you have not popped over to Harold’s diary then today would be a good day to have a look as it is thinking of others Thursday, the link is below.

I have also added another pizza story to listen to here and there is another story read by me on tapestry for you.

Wednesday 27th January

Good morning everyone!  So you know that Mrs Peters and I will be so excited to see you all again today. We love our Wednesday zoom calls and I am determined we will get the sound working properly today.

So this morning we will be having another zoom call together at 10 am. This week why not show us your puppets or your animal mask from last week, your pizza or your colourful cat, your awaongalema tree or something else you are really proud of.

As you know from last week over on Harold’s diary it is workout Wednesday  so I wonder what he will be up to today? Did anyone check in with him yesterday on try out Tuesday? I also know that Jo Wicks will be starting the day with one of his workouts if you want to try that out , we did it in school last week and it was exhausting!! It is also our PE day. So a day to be really active, you can try another one of the activities from Get Set 4 PE and you can also try some  more yoga. You can go out for a long walk , practise on your bike  or scooter, find a ball and practise all those kicking, throwing and catching skills we developed last term. Remember you don’t have to do it all now you could do some this morning and some later today.

Do you know what day of the week it is today? Have a look outside and decide what weather you will put on your calendar today. Do you know what today’s number is?  We are getting close to the end of January now.

Today we are going to be writing speech bubbles for the characters from our red hen story. You are really good at writing speech bubbles now. Choose two of the characters and then draw them and write their speech bubbles. You can either write what they say in the story or you can change what they say.   I have added a print out of the characters to use too if you would like to.

Do you remember the new sound Fig and Dom  taught us on Monday? We have another new one to learn today so get ready to find out more.

Phonics 27.01.2021

Well done for all the 6 patterns on the tens frames yesterday. You did such a great job. You can see some of them here. Today I would like you play a game with the video on. You will need  6 pieces of paper and I want you write a number on each piece 1-6. Lay them out on the floor  and watch the video, you need to jump on the number that matches the number pattern you see. You will need to press play to spin the dice and press pause to stop it.

You can also play this game without the video too if you draw dot patterns for your child to see and hold them up so they jump on the correct digit or you could roll a normal dice rather than using the video. Do you always get it right? Are some number patterns harder to recognise than others? Have fun!!

Roll a dice

A virtual dice which can be used for games or in classrooms. Press play to roll it; press pause to get a random number from 1 to 6.

Don’t forget your reading!!

then you need to click on Free e-book library

from this page you will need to create a free account so that you can read the books online

Yesterday we had great fun in school making and designing our pizzas , we talked about the ingredients and different toppings we would like to have on them. We thought it would be  fun to make ourselves chef’s hats ready for  when we do some cooking and perhaps set up a pizza shop or restaurant. Children love playing shops and cafes, they always like having notebooks to take down orders,  I have added a few pictures to inspire.I have had pretend pizza shops in the classroom before , sometimes with playdough ( very mess and not popular with the cleaners!!)  and also with cut out toppings as you can see in these pictures.

I found this wonderful story for you to listen to and it is read by the man who wrote the book and illustrated it. I chose it for you because it has lots of words in it with our new sound in – can you spot them all.

Tuesday 26th January

Good morning everyone!  How are you all today? I had some great photos of fun in the snow which I thought you might like to see.

You are all such wonderful children I am so so proud of all  your home learning and all the super things you are doing at home. Mrs Peters and I talk about you all everyday and all your home learning and just like you we cannot wait until  it is safe for us all to  be together  in school again. Luckily we will be seeing each other tomorrow on our zoom call so that is great!!

Do you know what day it is today? I wonder what weather we will have today, sadly I don’t think there will be anymore snow just lots of rain!!

We are going to start this morning by watching and listening to this week’s worship with Mrs Beaver. Remember how we sit and listen quietly and respectfully in school, make sure you do the same at home. If you have older brothers and sisters in school then they can watch this with you.I heard from some of you that you had listened to last week’s worship and that you had been thinking really carefully about the value of generosity and how you can be generous and who you know that is generous.

Worship 25th January

It is in giving that we receive! What do you think the little boy in today's Bible story received?

In this worship Mrs Beaver today told us  a story from the special book that has stories about Jesus in it – the bible. What did the little boy in the story do that was generous?

Did you enjoy the story yesterday?  We really enjoyed making our puppets in school and retelling the story so today you might need to watch the story again to help you remember it all.

I want you to remember all the things that the little red hen needed to do. So first she got a pan, next she got the flour, after that she got the mozzarella cheese then she mixed up the dough and popped the pizza in the oven, next they all ate the pizza and finally the friends did the washing up.

I have shown you what to do in a little video on tapestry so have a look at it after you’ve talked about the story to help you with today’s activity.

Do you remember the new sound we learnt yesterday?  Today we are going to practise using it again. You will need paper and something to write with today and if you made your flashcards yesterday they will be needed too.

Phonics 26.01.2021

Well done for all the super  groups of 6 from yesterday see if you spot yours  on the slide show below I have made with all your pictures, they really are fantastic – thank you. If you want to add to this then send in your photos and I will put them in here too.

So today you will need to watch the  video on tapestry to find out what to do for maths today. You will need paper or card and a pen and also some small items like buttons or counters or even pieces of pasta will do!!

Try really hard to your reading each day, you have reading in your phonics time too so you are getting lots of practise. I know you do not have the reading books from school at the moment but if you go to the following website

then you need to click on Free e-book library

from this page you will need to create a free account so that you can read the books online

The little red hen made a very big pizza didn’t she. Do you like pizza? I love it and I love making pizzas too. I am hoping that  we might all be able to make pizzas this week ( grown ups we will be doing this towards the end of the week) please don’t worry if it is not possible for you to this at home. Even if you will not be doing the cooking part I would still like the children to discuss pizza making and then to draw  what they would like to put on a pizza. I would like them to think about what toppings they will need and what other ingredients will be required, use the story to prompt them.

If they don’t want to draw it then they can always make it out of paper like these ones here!!

There is a story for you to listen to on tapestry when you are ready too. Enjoy it!!

Monday 25th January

Good morning everyone!  I am absolutely sure you will all have enjoyed the weekend and especially yesterday. It was so exciting to wake up and find that it had snowed during the night – what a surprise for us all.  I love the snow so I was very happy, I took Pippa for a walk in the snow and she loved it too, she likes it when we throw snowballs for her to chase!! I have put a little video of her on tapestry to see.

I am very glad I have put up lots of bird feeder because the birds will have found it tricky to find food in the snow and I had lots of them visiting my bird feeders on Sunday.

It is the first day of the school week today can you remember what that is? Have a look outside and decide what weather you will put on your calendar today – has it snowed again? Do you know what today’s number is?

Let’s get moving for the start of the day. I know that you can go to Jo Wicks youtube for his PE lesson or you might like to join in with this song  like we did last Monday to help us wake up and get  the day started!!

Wake Up! School Assembly Song and Dance from Songs For EVERY Assembly by Out of the Ark Music

So this week we will be continuing with our theme of animals which I am sure you are all enjoying. The children who are in school particularly like the zoo webcams and our favourites are the penguins. We also watched the winterwatch webcams and we saw lots of fish in the river and lots of different birds on the bird feeders.

This week we have a story to listen to which is based upon a traditional tale which some of you might know. It is  called The Little Red Hen  ( makes a pizza). You can listen to it on Tapestry.

After you have listened to it I want you to talk to your grown up about the story, what did the hen want to make? Did the other animals want to help her? Can you remember what she needed to buy from the shop? Do you remember one of the ways we learn our stories in school is to make puppets of the story characters so today I would like you to make the puppets for this story you will need to make a hen, a cat, a dog and a duck. When we make them at school we stick them onto pieces of card so we can move them around or you could use sticks too. Here are the ones I have drawn, when you have made  yours perhaps you can use them to  tell the story.

I would like you to start by making yourself a set of cards with all our new sounds on and any that you still need to practise. So the sounds will be

write each one on a different piece of card or paper and then each day you add to the set. If you are finding it hard to remember them then you can add a picture to it to remind you, for example a queen for qu etc

Do you remember the new sounds Fig and Dom  taught us last week?  We have another new sound for today and all our tricky words are on the video too. You will also need paper and something to write with today.

Phonics 25.01.2021

Today we will be starting by watching  a numberblocks episode.  It is all about 6 and the link is below then there is another short video to watch. At the end of this I would like you to look around at home and see if you can find the six pattern anywhere or any groups of 6 items. You and your grown up could take some photos to show me.

All about 6

I know how well you are all practising your reading so keep it up.Either read one of the oxford owl books or click back to last week and read one of the reading books on the videos I found.

Last week we continued with our PSED work and this week  we will be continuing with the next activity – number 3  When I am not well. Click on the link below for this work.

We also have our own version of Picture News now which your parents might have seen on our school website for the older children. Below you will find the links to a document explaining about Picture News at home and also the documents to look at and share together. Each week there is topical photograph to discuss with discussion ideas for you to use at home.

Here is this week’s picture.
