    Our Vision and Values

At Blandford St Mary, our vision statement of 'Knowing we are loved, we learn to be the best that we can be,' is expressed through our Biblical underpinning, ‘Let all that you do be done in Love.’ – 1 Corinthians 16-14.  The simplicity of this theological vision makes it accessible to everyone—whether they are of Christian faith or not. It reflects a loving and compassionate focus, rooted in God’s love for us, which is evident throughout our school. In every aspect of school life, we seek to reflect God’s love in all we do.

This verse speaks to the heart of Christian living—placing love at the centre of all our actions. Love, in the biblical sense, is not merely an emotion but a commitment to kindness, patience, respect, forgiveness, and compassion. These qualities align directly with our school's Christian values or Love, Hope, Perseverance, Respect and Responsibility, and underpin our aspiration to nurture a community where every child and adult is known, valued, and loved.

Choosing this verse as our foundation sets a clear, accessible standard for children and adults alike. It reminds us that our motivations matter—that how we speak, act, learn, correct, support, and celebrate should always be rooted in love. This promotes a school environment where relationships flourish, children feel safe, and learning is joyful.

Value tokens are awarded to the children for expressing our Christian values through their everyday actions. Children vocalise how proud they are to receive values tokens and add their personal leaf to our values tree —a growing symbol of how love shapes our community.

All relationships in school are consistently built on love. There is a strong emphasis on mutual respect and genuine care, and this is evident in the positive, trusting relationships we have with parents and the wider community. Parents comment on how welcomed and supported they feel, and staff work in close partnership with families to ensure the best outcomes for every child.

Even though our Biblical underpinning, “Let all that you do be done in love,” can be seen on all our walls, it is not just a display. It truly is the heartbeat of our school. It informs our ethos, drives our actions, and shapes the kind of community we are striving to be: a place where love is seen, heard, and felt in everything we do.

Values leaves are awarded to children for living out our Christian values and showing these in school. Alongside this, children receive values tokens, which they place in our tubes in the entrance hall – a visual way of seeing our values in action.

    Ace Points

Ace point awards are given in the context of the value being demonstrated and children are rewarded with a token to place in our values tubes in our school entrance hall. These are a visual measure of how we are growing as a school in each of the values. Every class created a banner showing what each value means to us. These are displayed in the hall as a constant reminder of our commitment to these values, which are derived from Bible teaching and emphasise the importance of love in the world.

This DSAT bear was presented to our school In January 2020 in celebration of our school joining the Diocese of Salisbury Academy Trust. This bear is a symbol of the care and friendship our school will experience as part of the Trust.

The children and staff were asked to name the bear!

Amare was the name chosen by the staff and children as “amare” means “to love” in Latin, but it is also said to mean “the Lord said” in Hebrew.
