World Book Day 2025
SPRING 2
As we reflect on another exciting term, we are thrilled to share the wonderful experiences Year 6 has enjoyed. This month, we have significantly improved our arithmetic skills, tackling complex problems with confidence. Our work in Maths has taught us not just to calculate, but to reason and explain strategies effectively.
In a thought-provoking topic, we engaged in a balanced discussion about the ethics of sending animals into space. The children presented arguments for and against this controversial issue, demonstrating their ability to weigh different perspectives and articulate opinions and evidence thoughtfully.
Our literary adventures included the captivating tale of Sinbad’s seventh voyage, where we explored themes of bravery and adventure. This story sparked our imagination and encouraged us to write creatively. Also, there was World Book Day, which provided some interesting costumes!
Transitioning to secondary school is important, and we were fortunate to visit the Blandford School on two more occasions. These visits offered us a glimpse into life as a secondary student and helped prepare us for the exciting challenges ahead.
In addition to these activities, we delved into the fascinating world of Ancient Greece, learning about its rich history and culture. Moreover, our physical education sessions were lively, filled with plenty of hockey matches and a cross-country running event; fostering teamwork and resilience among us.
As the term comes to a close, we look forward to more exciting times in the final term in the children's primary school life!
SPRING 1
This newsletter has been written by the children, with Mrs Beaver's permission, after many requests by the children to write something on behalf of the school. So the following has been written by four brilliant writers :
In the first half-term back after Christmas, we had a productive seven weeks learning about the Ancient Greeks, the circulatory system, The Highwayman (both in Art and English) and much more.
In English, we worked on diary writing and emotive writing to create a diary from the point of view of Bess, the Highwayman and Tim the Ostler- all well known characters from The Highwayman poem - and also made our own versions with new characters to great success. To finish the term, we did independent writing on Best Friends: an illustration of a girl and a giraffe.
In guided reading we have read many different books, but we have recently read The Nowhere Emporium by Ross Mackenzie- which we all have enjoyed deeply. A class favourite has been Wolf Brother (many of us have gone on to read the series of books by Michelle Paver).
In PE we all have done many sports we all like but this term we have been doing gymnastics - jumps, rolls and partner work - which we have all mastered now. In the final week we played our interhouse football competition organised by Miss West. We’ve also had members of the class going out for girls’ football and netball.
Finally, we have also been invited back to Bryanston to watch a show and can’t wait for the free ice lolly!
