Spellings
Spellings in Year 5
Every Monday, children in Year 5 will be given 10 spellings to learn/practice over the week. These lists will be made up of 7 spellings from our weekly spelling rule (which we will be learning and practicing in school) and 3 words from either the Year 3/4 or Year 5/6 common exception words list.
Last week, we tested every child on their Year 3/4 spelling words as a baseline assessment for Year 5. Before moving onto the Year 5/6 spelling lists, it is important that children can spell most of the Year 3/4 words accurately. We consider ‘most’ to be 85/109.
Although we will work on these spellings together in school, we ask that every child, as part of their homework, practices these words at home. Spellings will be tested every Monday and scores will be recorded in homework diaries.
