School Council Composting
One of the initiatives from this year by the School Council has been campaigning for less waste from breaktimes. Since break is supposed to be fruit or vegetables only, they reasoned that we didn't need to fill landfill with our rubbish, but could compost it all. Each break, school council members take out compost caddies for fruit waste, and then empty it into the compost bins up by the raised beds.
Today, May 29th was compost harvesting day. The bin was opened up and rich, dark compost dug into the raised beds. It has been so successful that 3 more compost bins have been set up ready for this term and next year.
